My eyes burn wide awake against
A frame of endless weariness
Threat'ning off the tide of slumber
Long into the night
Distantly, insistently
The taunting numbers hiss at me
Bedtime! Lay thee down now lest
Fatigue destroy thy day!
But sooner that I lay me down
Sooner wake I with the frown
Of one more day of wishing
I could sleep eternal sleep
The daytime holds no joy for me
The sunlight mocks my reverie
I cannot bring myself to strive
Toward such disphoric nothingness
